Back in August of this year (2019), Klarissa Byers and her organization Renewed Inspiration held it's 5th annual Back To School Jam and School Supply Giveaway in the West Charlotte community.  The event served hundreds of families and school children, providing them with a massive amount of school supplies as well as book bags to help them kick off the new school year.  Now, weeks later and as the children have now gotten settled into the first semester of the 19-20 school year Klarissa Byers and Renewed Inspiration continue to help the children by providing activities, workshops and mentor-ship / fellowship to the children, especially the young teenage girls and assisting them with goal setting and tutoring for the school year!

TODAY'S "POWERFUL WOMAN SPOTLIGHT" is on emcee / hostess / entertainer KULA VONCILLE!  

          You remember legendary emcees such as Roxanne Shante, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, the late Ms. Melodie, Monie Love, The Lady of Rage, Jean Grae, Bahamadia, Da Brat, Remy Ma, Rah Digga, and Lauryn Hill?  What do all these talented lyricists have in common?  Not only are the individuals on this list exceptionally gifted hip hop recording artists, but they are also strong, intelligent, powerful and influential women that were also inspirational to a nation of young girls aspiring to follow in their professional foot steps.  In 2019 and beyond we have Kula Voncille, the daughter that was birthed from the mother of golden era hip hop.  While the game is now saturated with female recording artists that would rather sacrifice substance in favor of shock value. Nowadays we have more Barbees, Strippers and IG models picking up the mic to represent for the ladies instead of strong willed, powerful women with integrity giving hope and motivation to the next generation of girls, but with the rise of Kula Voncille, she has enough stage presence, lyrical skills, flair and substance to bring the art of "femceeing" back to it's glory days.

          Kula Voncille was born and raised in the heart of Richmond, VA and is the living embodiment of the state mantra "VA is for Lovers and Hustlers" (because Kula is most certainly both of course).  Kula Voncille AKA Kueen Kong has always been a student of hip hop, but graduated from the school of hard knocking hip hop emcees in 2014 the year she started her music career.  In that year Kula won the Soul Logistic Radio Gong Show Contest and opened for the legendary Slick Rick.

          Kula's musical influences include but certainly not limited to Eminem, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, T.I. and Redman just to name a few.  There is no one word that can encompass everything Kula Von is as an emcee.  Kula is so versatile as a performer that it's hard to put her in a box and hard for the artist to even describe herself, when others ask her to define her style she kicks a verse a capella to show them rather than tell them!

Kula Voncille has performed at various prestigious venues in many cities in Virginia such as Ma Michele Cafe and Catering, Maple Bourbon, 

The Camel, The Top, VCUs International Contemporary Arts Building,

This week's POWERFUL WOMAN SPOTLIGHT goes to author of the Torn book series, motivational speaker, humanitarian, prominent businesswoman, Television and Radio host Ella Johnson.

                  Ella Johnson
     Ella Johnson, born and raised in small town Monroeville, AL, is neither shy to the cameras nor is she unfamiliar with being in the spotlight. As a teenager, Ella overcame racial barriers in Alabama when she found herself up against odds that were placed on Blacks in her community. Raised by a single parent, Ella and her family faced the same hardships that were well known to Blacks in the south during the 70’s.
     In 1988, Ella graduated from Monroe County High School and went on to further her education at the University of Mobile (formerly Mobile College), where she pursued a career in Communications as a Broadcast Journalist. Ella moved on to Tampa, FL where she attended Avance Career Center and lit up the runways all over Tampa with her authentic charm. She was developing skills that would soon push her into her destiny.
     Still in pursuit of her first love in broadcasting, in 2010, the Connecticut School of Broadcasting auditioned Ella and accepted Ella into their school of Broadcasting, where she found herself at the top of the class. She served as the News Anchor and Director for the final project of which the team scored an above average grade. Immediately after graduation, Ella locked in an internship at the NBC News affiliate in Orlando, WESH TV 2, where she worked for 6 months.
     With many experiences of life under her belt, Ella discovered her newfound love, which was to write.  In 2010, Ella wrote her first novel, Torn: The Melissa Williams Story, based on true events in her life in Alabama. Upon completion of the book, it became a hit with the people from her hometown demanding that more of the story be told. There are 3 books currently published as The Torn Series, with the Final Torn in progress and on target to be published in 2019. Ella has written the screenplay for this story, with the hopes of seeing it come to life on the big screen.
     On a sunny Sunday afternoon during the summer of 2014, Ella heard God’s voice encouraging her to feed families for Thanksgiving in Alabama. With nothing but God’s word to work with, Ella left Florida and traveled to Alabama to be obedient to God’s voice. To date, her organization, Women at Work International, has fed over 600 families for Thanksgiving. That work will continue this year, but this year, the organization will also feed families in Paynesville, Liberia.
     Continuing in her passion for broadcasting, The Mahogany Bronze Hour can be heard on internet radio, Facebook Live and will be coming soon as an internet Talk Show. The purpose of this show is to encourage, enlighten and to empower the men and women in the community with the truth and harsh realities of life that affect our communities. Hosted by CSB graduate, Ella Johnson, the shows are edgy and without restriction to any conversation. The Mahogany Bronze Hour broadcasts from Monday – Friday from 5pm – 6pm on DJ Pun’s Underground Radio – www.keepinitrealunderground.com.  The Mahogany Bronze Hour, the talk show, is coming soon.
